• 2004 tarihli, aylardir ayilip bayilarak dinledigim fevkalade guzel youssou n'dour albumu. aslinda 1999 yilinda kaydedilmis, ama yayinlanmasi icin 9/11'in olmasi ve islam'in batida terorizmle "tekrar" es anlamli olarak kullanilmaya baslanmasi gerekmis. youssou n'dour 2 sene evvel irak savasindan once, durumu protesto icin abd turnesini iptal etmisti. simdi de islamiyet'in olumlu, askin yuzunu gostermeye calisiyor bu albumle. nonesuch etiketi ile yayinlandi abd'de. beyaz kapagin uzerinde arap harfleriyle "allah" yazisi okunuyor.
  n'dour'u 90'larin basinda ilk duydugumdan beri sevmekle beraber, her zaman bir anglo-sakson pazarina oynama hissi sezmistim. ozellikle 2000 cikisli joko'da bu durum, zirveye vurmus, afro-pop'un afro'su minimuma indirilmisti, yine de dinlemis, ama bu adami kendi haline biraksalar, bu sesiyle ne yapar acaba diye dusunmeden de gecememistim. meger, zaten yapacagini yapmis, fakat plak sirketinin gazabina ugramis. 1999'da kismen kahire'de, 80'lerin unlu shaabi pop produktoru fathy salama [salamat grubundan da hatirlanir] ile egypt'i kaydetmis. album icerik olarak, islam'a, ozellikle de islam'i senegal'e getiren ve yayan seyh ahmadou bamba, seyh ibra fall gibi sufi dervislere bir medhiye niteliginde.
  acilistaki allah parcasi, nefis bir akustik numara, "la ilahe illallah"'lar ile bir inanc tazelemesi. ikinci sarki shukran mamba ile, dini muzigin illa ciddiyetle oturulup dinlenecek bir muzik olmadigini hissediyoruz, qawwali parcalarinin transa gecirmesi gibi, bu da benzer bir etki yapiyor, fakat bunu misir isi yaylilar, darbukalar ile beceriyor. tijaniyye, daha sakin ve huzurlu bir parca ve anlasildigi kadariyla senegal'de yaygin olan bir islam tarikatina ovgu. [bizde de 50'lerin basinda ticaniler olarak bilinen zamanin aczmendi modeli tarikat, dunyanin iki farkli kosesinde bu kadar degisik olmalari veya algilanmalari ilginc] kapanis parcasi touba daru salaam, [touba, baris sehri] n'dour'un da dogum yeri olan ve senagal'de kutsal kabul edilen sehre bir guzelleme ve yaylilar bastan cikarici.
  misir isi duzenlemeler, diger sarkilarda daha afrikali ritmlere ve akustik havalara yerini birakiyor, ama hic bir sekilde baymayan, yeterince varyasyonlu, nefis sarkilar hepsi de.

• youssou n'dour'un 7 haziran 2004'de piyasaya çıkan, özellikle shukran bamba isimli şarkısıyla arabeskleşme yolunda ciddi adımlar atmış(atmak hafif bir söylem oldu), afro-pop'un ötesinde, afrobesk olarak nitelendirilebilme potansiyeline ciddi miktarda olan sahip olan albümü egypt'in tracklisti şöyledir:
