• james dennis "jim" carroll (d. 1 ağustos 1949, new york city; ö. 11 eylül 2009, new york city) abd'li yazar, otobiyograf, şair, müzisyen ve punk. carroll en çok 1978 yılında yayımlanan the basketball diaries adlı otobiyografik eseri ile tanınır. 1995 yılında bu eser film olarak uyarlandı; başrol karakteri carroll'u leonardo dicaprio canlandırdı. çok benziyor zaten bence gençliğine dicaprio.
  
  11 eylül 2009'da carroll, 60 yaşında, manhattan'da bulunan evinde kalp krizinden öldü. öldüğünde masasında çalıştığı bildirildi.

• aynı isimli kitabından ve hayat hikayesinden esinlenilerek yaratılmış olan the basketball diaries isimli filmin sonunu pek beğenmediğine dair 1995 tarihli bir haber okudum. haber metninin sonunda filmin bitişini bir adsız narkotik toplantısına benzettiğini ifade ediyor. tam olarak neyini beğenmemiş şahsen ben anlayamadım. sanatçı tribi sanırım.
