  audie murphy adındaki, amerikanın en çok madalyaya sahip askerlerinden birisinin to hell and back adlı kitabındaki the crosses grow on anzio şiirinden esinlenilerek yazılmıştır. savaş sonrası travmayı atlatamayınca bu vatandaş kendisini bir haftalığına hostele kapatmış, ilaç bağımlılığını yenmeye çalışmıştır. uzunca bir süre yastığının altında dolu bir silahla uyumuştur bu vatandaş. sonrasında da oyunculuğa soyunmuştur.
