• biggie'nin 94 tarihli ready to die efsanesinden müthiş bir şarkı. biggie'nin ünlü olmadan önceki ve sonraki hayatını kıyasladığı ve "kötü günler geride kaldı, artık ben bir starım, eskisi gibi sokaklarda crack satmıyorum, işte rep müziği böyle hayatımı kurtardı" dediği damar bir parça. şarkı boyunca arkadan "yeee, aah, bad boy, so good" diye iç geçiren puff daddy'ye de rakunların musallat olmasını dileyerek sözleri yazıyoruz.

  ilginç yönü de şarkı kaydedilirken henüz adı pek duyulmamış bir rapper olan biggie'nin gelecek başarıyı, parayı, şöhreti, takdiri büyük bir özgüven ile önceden tahmin etmesidir.
  
  biggie'nin şu şarkıdaki 3 verse'ü de ve flow'u ders kitaplarında okutulacak cinsten. her satır bambaşka bir muhteşemlikte. ama illa birazcık örnek vermek gerekirse ilk verse'teki limelight/rhyme thight kafiyesi; ikinci verse'teki moet & alize line'ını takip eden 5-6 satır, honey/toast benzetmesi/kelime oyunu ve "5 karats" line'ı; 3. verse'te landlord'undan bahsettiği kısımdan sonrası...... her biri rap yapma tekniğininin, flow'un ve normalde pek kafiyelenemeyecek kelimeleri bile eğip bükerek kafiyeleyebilmenin inanılmaz başarılı örnekleri. dediğim gibi aslında tüm satırlar çok iyi ama bunlar en öne çıkanlardan bazıları.

• mtume'nin 1983 tarihli, electro-funk hiti juicy fruit'in, notorious b.i.g. tarafından ready to die albümünde sample edilmiş hali. fanatik dönemlerimde ağır bir eleştiriye mazur kalan bu parçayı sevmeye başladım desem yeridir.
• efsane bir remixle arzı endam etmiş gene. ne de güzel olmuş.

• biggie smalls'un solo anlamda ilk hitidir. pete rock, beatinin kendisine ait olduğunu ve didy'nin ondan çaldığını söyler. muhtemelen yapmıştır yavsak neyse 1994 yılında çıkmış bir şarkıyı, 1995 doğumlu jason denayer şampiyonluk seremonisinde çıkış şarkısı olarak seçiyorsa üstüne diyecek çok fazla bir şey yok. benim şarkıda parmak basmak istediğim konu aslında şarkının arkasında ki hüzündür. biggie bu şarkıyı yayınladığında cidden parası yoktu ve bu şarkı onun alter-egosunun bir parçasıydı.   hüzün demişken jay-z'nin en underrated işlerinden biri olan, a dream şarkısını dinleyip demek istediğimi anlayabilirsiniz. karar verin işte bu şarkının 1. verse'ün hangisine daha uygun olduğuna.
