  shag tobacco sadece ve sadece kesim şeklini ifade eder, tütün içeriğini yada tadını değil. ayrıca shag ingilizcede saç, ince iplik manalarına da geldiği için --şeklen olmasa da-- türkçedeki karşılığı kız saçı adı verilen tütün kesimidir. bu tip kesim, tütünün sarma sigara için uygun kalınlıkta kesilmiş olduğunu gösterir. bazı ince kesim yada iyice parçalanmış pipo tütünleri için de nadiren shag tabiri kullanılsa da shag tobacco denildiğinde anlaşılması gereken sarma sigara tütünüdür.
  
  dipçik not: bizdeki kız saçı kesim, ecnebilerin shag kesiminden çok çok daha incedir ve genelde kaçak tütün'lerde^* görülür. tütün ne kadar ince kesilirse o derece kolay sarılır ama bir yandan da o derece daha harlı yanar ve daha hızlı kurur.
