• genesis grubunun en saglam, dirayetli ve azimli çikan elemani.
  topluluga sonradan katilmanin verdigi eziklikle hep arka planda kalan ve toplulugun zirvede oldugu yillarda bile kovulma korkusu yasayan kaliteli müzisyen.
  belki dünyanin en iyi gitaristi degildir ama çalis stili baslibasina bir ekoldür. diger sanssizligi, genesis'in en iyi albümlerinde tony banks'in klavyesi ve peter gabriel'in sahne gösterileri arasinda gitarinin kaynayip gitmesidir. 1973 yapimi selling england by the pound albümünde yeralan "firhty of fifty" parçasindaki performansi rock müziginin belki de en basit ama o kadar da etkileyici-muhtesem gitar solosunu yaratmistir.
  1977'de topluluktan ayrilmasiyla genesis "phil collins band" haline gelmis, bitmistir. genesis'in genesis olmaktan çikmasina peter gabriel'in degil de steve hackett'in ayrilmasinin sebep oldugu kabul edilir.
  genesis elemanlarinin hepsi solo albüm yayinlamistir. peter gabriel ve phil collins akilli çikip isin "commercial" tarafina yönelmisler, köseyi dönmüslerdir. genesis müziginin belkemigi kabul edilen tony banks ve mike rutherford ise sasirtici bir sekilde birkaç önemsiz albümden sonra pes etmislerdir. steve hackett ise 1975'den bugüne 40'a yakin albüm ile yoluna devam etmektedir. albümler o kadar istikrarlidir ki, insana "yahu genesis'in belkemigi yoksa steve hackett miydi ?" diye ciddi ciddi düsündürmektedir.

  grubun sound'unda klavyeler cok cok etkili ve hackett'in savas baltasi bazi albumlerde neredeyse duyulmaz halde..bu eziyet sonunda kucuk steven'in canina tak eder ve 1977'de gruptan ayrilmasina neden olur, ve yeteneklerini ancak solo kariyerinde kanitlayabilir, ama sadece ufacik bi kitleye..

• 1975 tarihli "voyage of the acolyte" adlı solo albümü, insana, sonsuz uzayda bir seyahat yaptırır. peter gabriel'li genesis'i en çok çağrıştıran beste, albümün kapanış parçası olan "shadow of the hierophant"dır. bu şarkıda vokalist olarak sally oldfield'a denk gelmek ayrı bir güzelliktir.

• genesis'ten 1977'de ayrılmış olmasına olabildiğine sevindiğim deha. böylelikle collins güdümlü pop'laşan genesis'te yer almayarak kendi solo kariyerinde enfes albümlere imza atmış ve özellikle 1978-1981 solo albümleriyle olası genesis sound'unun örneklerini de vermiştir. peter gabriel'in de 1975'te ayrılmış olmasından gayet memnun olan şahsımı, gabriel'in enfes diskografisiyle de kendisine hayran kaldığımdan özellikle 1975-1983 boyunca hem eski üyelerin solo albümleriyle hem de genesis'in albümleriyle muhteşem başyapıtların müzik tarihinde yer alabilmesi, abartmıyorum, insanlık adına en büyük şanslardan biridir. hepimiz çok şanslıyız, tüm dünya olarak steve hackett, peter gabriel, tony banks, mike rutherford ve phil collins'e sahip olduğumuzdan.
  
  collins'e arada ne kadar kızsak da genesisian olarak arada, varlığı ve yetkinlikleri yadsınamaz asla. iyi ki invisible touch bile çıktı, daha ne diyeyim.
• su anda üzerimdeki tisörtte kendi cizdigim bir silüeti olan ve bu yüzden kendimi daha bir üstün insan hissettigim, mark knopfler, ritchie blackmore ve jimmy page ile birlikte "gitar kahramani olmayan gitar ikonlarim" arasina geç te olsa katilip, bas köseye oturmus eski genesis gitaristi. tokyo tapes isimli konser albümünde genesis'in 1973 cikisli "selling england by the pound" albümünde yer alan "firth of fifth" adindaki rock destanini üstün kankalar›yla (john wetton, chester thompson, ian mcdonald, julian colbeck) orjinalini asan bir yorumla calmis; bu vesileyle onu tanimadan gecen yillarima lanet, kahir, bela yagdirmama sebep olmustur.
