• friedrich von schiller'in tarihsel gerçeklerle arasında farklılıklar içermekle birlikte jeanne d'arc'ın hayatını konu edinen ve schiller hayattayken en çok sahnelenen 1801 tarihli tiyatro oyunu. türkçesi orleans bakiresidir.
• alaric'e^*** mal edilen bir söz aslında bu oyunda geçiyormuş, ne zamandır aklımdaydı yazayım. ingiliz kumandan talbot şöyle demiş:
  
  "mit der dummheit kämpfen götter selbst vergebens."^*
  
  hatta tamamını koyayım:
  
  "unsinn, du siegst und ich muß untergehn!
  mit der dummheit kämpfen götter selbst vergebens.
  erhabene vernunft, lichthelle tochter
  des göttlichen hauptes, weise gründerin
  des weltgebäudes, führerin der sterne,
  wer bist du denn, wenn du dem tollen roß
  des aberwitzes an den schweif gebunden,
  ohnmächtig rufend, mit dem trunkenen
  dich sehend in den abgrund stürzen mußt!"[1]
  
  aynı kaynakta ingilizce çevirisini de bulduğum için türkçeye çevirmeye de üşendiğimden buraya koyuyorum:
  
  "folly, thou conquerest, and ı must yield!
  against stupidity the very gods
  themselves contend in vain. exalted reason,
  resplendent daughter of the head divine,
  wise foundress of the system of the world,
  guide of the stars, who art thou then if thou,
  bound to the tail of folly’s uncurbed steed,
  must, vainly shrieking with the drunken crowd,
  eyes open, plunge down headlong in the abyss.
  accursed, who striveth after noble ends,
  and with deliberate wisdom forms his plans!
