  • şimdiye kadar yapmış olduğu işleri kısaca şöyle sıralayalım;

    till the early 1960s

    the bill ashton combo

    people involved
bill ashton (?); jon lord (kbr); and whoever else.
    a jazz group.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    early 1960s to 1963

red bludd's bluesicians = the don wilson's quartet

    people involved
red bludd[= don wilson] (bss); reg dunnage(drm); derek griffith (gtr); jon lord (kbr); art wood(vcl).
while alternating their name between the two above, they played numerous us air bases, weddings and tennis club dances.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1963 to 1964

    the art wood combo

    people involved
reg dunnage(drm); derek griffith (gtr); jon lord (kbr); malcolm pool(bss); art wood (vcl).
the art wood combo (if that was what they were called) joined forces with red bludd's bluesicians when don wilson, i.e. red bludd himself, had been injured (killed?) in a car accident.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    sometime during 1964

    the kinks

    people involved
the kinks, i.e. mick avory(drm); dave davies(gtr/vcl); ray davies(vcl/gtr); pete quaife(bss); plus some sessioners incl. jon lord (kbr) and jimmy page(gtr).
the kinks felt they needed some musicianship on their early recordings and thus invited some sessioners. hence jon lord came to play piano on "you really got me"! he probably plays organ on "bald headed woman" and possibly also "long tall sally" and "lover not a fighter". not all sources agree on lord's contributions to this album though. some claim he played piano and organ all over it, while others say he played piano on "you really got me" and nothing else. perhaps he played more than what was eventually ended up being released.

    concerto for group and orchestra

    people involved
ritchie blackmore (gtr); ian gillan (vcl); roger glover (bss); jon lord (org/pno/kbr); ian paice (drm); and the royal philharmonic orchestra conducted by malcolm arnold.
lord's concerto was performed live at the royal albert hall on 24 september 1969; it was televized (in the uk and denmark) and later also released on video (slightly edited), and it gave deep purple a huge marketing. gillan finished his lyrics just minutes before taking the mike; and a subsequent concert arranger secured a local brazz band to play with deep purple since he couldn't get the symphony orchestra! (read all about it on the sleeve notes to the video.) the concerto was also performed at the hollywood bowl in the us during august 1970. any recordings from that?

ritchie blackmore (gtr); ian gillan (vcl); roger glover (bss); jon lord (org/pno/kbr); ian paice (drm); the light music society conducted by malcolm arnold.
the concerto evoked the bbc to commission lord to write another one, which he did. it was first performed by deep purple and the light music society (with malcolm arnold again as the conductor) at the royal festival hall in london on 17 september 1970. the individual movements of the gemini suite are slightly based on the personalities of deep purple. it was later re-recorded in the studio (see below) with a slight change in musicians (and musical arrangement).

pal recorded an album, toured and started recordings for another album, but financial consideration eventually put a stop to that, which was vastly unfortunate since they managed to record a superb album; definitely one of the best deep purple spinn-offs ever! as for the second album, it was apparently recorded in its entirety except for the vocals. unfortunately, however, the master tapes seem to have vanished; at least, they can't be found! pal also did a short tour, during which ashton fell of the stage and broke his leg; it didn't stop him finishing the concert though :-)
