• calliope, ya da eski yunanca adı ile calliopeia, epik şiir'in temsilcisi, 9 muse'un en büyüğüdür. elinde tablet, kağıt ya da kitapla betimlenir. kafasından ışıklar saçan, sanatı müziği koruyan ve sabahtan akşama kadar muse'larla takılan tanrı apollo'dan linus'ı doğurmuş, bu çocuğu yazık ki hercules tarafından öldürülmüştür. (yunan mitolojisinde hercules çizgi filmdeki hepimizin hasta olduğu karakterden epey farklıdır)
  
  ayrıca yunan mitolojisinde olduğu gibi neil gaiman'ın şaheseri sandman'de de calliope orpheus'un annesidir, ki babası da esas oğlan morpheus^*'dur zaten.
