• 1957 yili yapimi olan versyonu gercekten oldukca basarili bir hikayeye sahip, doneminin teknik altyapisina gore basarili sayilabilecek ve iyi cekilmis bir film. gunumuzde bazi noktalari seksist olarak degerlendirilebilecek de olsa ozlem duydugumuz karakterlerin tutarli davranislari ve anlamli diyaloglar kisiyi mutlu ediyor.

  hikâyesi güzel, izledik ettik ama netice itibarıyla sadece eğlenmiş olduk.
  
  parapsikolojik ve majist atıfların hepsi havada kalmış. atıfların içi biraz daha doldurulabilseydi kült bir film ortaya çıkabilirmiş. bu haliyle gizem-macera filmi olarak kalmış.
  
  filmdeki kara büyücü mr. karwell'e karşı modern bilimselciliği temsil eden psikiyatrist doktor holben fazlaca laubali bir karakter olmuş. filmin sonunda "bazı şeyleri bilmemek daha iyidir" deyip işin içinden çıkmaya çalışması başına gelenlerin gerçek mahiyetini anlama konusundaki yetersizliğini ifade etmektedir.
  
  filmdeki kara büyücü mr. karwell ile çekişebilecek asıl karakter the devil rides out filmimdeki ezoterik üstad duc de richleau olurdu kanaatimce. dükümüz laneti bozmakla kalmaz bir ton da ezoterik ayar çekerdi.
